I'll admit it. My heart and my mind have been thinking heavily about both of my grandmas. I have very good memories of both of them and I feel so blessed that I got to know both of them and that they lived into my adult years.
My paternal grandma passed away earlier than she should have due to an infection after surgery. It was a shock to me and my parents didn't tell me she was in the hospital with an infection. I'm sure it was just one of those things that got overlooked and it wasn't purposefully done. I just got a text from my mom one morning that my grandma was probably going to pass away that day and about a half-hour or so later a text that she was gone. It was definitely a rough day and I never got to tell her goodbye.
Grandma was one of my favorite people when I was little and she was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Grandma was also amazing in the kitchen. Most of the family raves about her spaghetti sauce, but I'm picky and I never cared for it. However, she also made THE BEST sugar cookies ever! When I asked her for the recipe I was SHOCKED when she pulled out a recipe book. I totally expected her to pull out some old recipe card, but no.
The next challenge for the Scrapathon that I took on was under the umbrella of creating an All About Me book and the challenge was to share our favorite recipe. I chose not to share the actual recipe as it did come from a recipe book and I don't recall which, plus I want to keep it somewhat secret. (Mwahahaha!) Instead, I just focused on just a small handful of times I've used her recipe and in my journaling, I told the story of why these cookies are present at most events.

And I was told that the journaling is kind of hard to read in this format, so here it is:
Grandma knew her way around a kitchen. The family was always raving about her food. My favorite was always her sugar cookies. When I got around to ask her for the recipe, I was suprised to see her pull out a cook book. Even though her recipe came from a book, she found a way to make it her own. After she died, it became important for me to make her cookies for my kids' birthdays and other special family events. It helped me feel like a part of her was there with us. I've yet to perfect this recipe, but maybe it's better that way.
