...FIRST WATERMELON...

Sometimes I have to laugh at the timing of some of my scrapbook layouts. Or perhaps it's not necessarily MY timing, but the universe's...huh. Something to consider.

When I was looking at the Free With Purchase collection for July from Gingerscraps, I really kind of drew a blank. I loved the colors of the collection and the whole feel, but I just couldn't think of anything to do with it. I went back and forth for a few days and then I noticed the melon paper and I finally had an idea.

I thought back to Independence Day of 2009 and photos of child #4 biting into slices of watermelon. He really had had watermelon prior to this, but it was usually smaller, squared off pieces. I, personally, didn't (& don't) usually buy watermelon because I hate how messy it is to cut up. My mother-in-law buys it often and cuts it into squares. In fact, as a kid my husband would sit and eat huge bowls full of watermelon. He's now developed an allergy to what we think is probably citrus and watermelon is one of those things he can't tolerate anymore and it's probably the thing he misses most. So, my kid had definitely had watermelon before this day, but not right of the rind.

My dear friend (whose home we were at), is much less finicky about things than I am, and she had cut a bunch of watermelon slices for the holiday. My little guy was seriously in heaven and kept going back for more. It was a fun memory to scrap and to scrap a 4th of July page shortly before the 4th of July.
