I have another small confession: I like trains. By no means am I an enthusiast, but I do enjoy watching trains and I've always enjoyed riding trains when the opportunity has presented itself.
I'm one of those people that want a massive train set going around my Christmas tree one year.
Our local zoo actually has a small train and it's something most, if not all, of our kids have always enjoyed riding. And just when I think a kid is kind of over the whole train riding thing, something happens that reminds me that deep inside we all still have a child living there.
In fact, on this particular day, our preteen daughter wanted to go off with a couple of her older siblings and do their own thing for a while. We rode the train without her and when we all met up again, she was upset that she missed it.
We knew the zoo was closing soon so we weren't sure they'd still be running the train, but we booked it back to the train station to see if we'd get lucky and we did. She was able to get her ride and all was right with the world again. Also, it's a good thing the train rides are free with membership passes or she would've been told no and would have learned that sometimes it pays to stay with Mom and Dad.
