I hope you’re all sitting down for this…

I’m actually making a post about something other than scrapbooking. I know, I’m shocked too. Although truth be told, I’ll probably be adding some scrapbooking related posts after I finish this one, so….

At the start of the week, I got an email. It was one of those emails where one blogger has round up a few different ideas and posted them in their blog. As soon as I saw the post by Busy Being Jennifer, I knew I wanted to do something similar to her Book Page Bunny Bunting (Pictured Below).

Because there was no way I’d get the wooden pieces BEFORE Easter, I decided I’d just make mine out of paper. Cardstock of course. I knew that I’d do the patterned part on white cardstock and that I’d reinforce the backs with colored cardstock.

What initially drew me in was the book pages decoupaged on the bunnies. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the look of words on things. What I didn’t love was the idea of ripping pages out of books, no matter how old the book might be. It just seems so wrong. I know it’s a weird quirk I have.

So, I did the next best thing. I went through all my digi-scrap supplies and found papers that had that book-like, newspaper-type looks. I originally found colored papers, but then remembered that we need to restock our colored ink, so I printed them in black.

I then had a brilliant idea!

I would use the pastel-colored paints I had just recently used on a couple of other new projects and splatter the paint onto the printed cardstock. I went about my splattering and it made more of a mess than I thought it might and we won’t discuss just how far a tiny toothbrush can splatter paint. I still think I missed a few places when I cleaned up after myself…

In the end, I was thrilled by the splattering patterns and that each page was just different.

I used my trusty Silhouette to cut out my bunny shapes and was on my way.

While I loved the look of the pom-poms the original poster used, I didn’t want to take the time to make pom-poms like that. So I searched my stash of stuff and found a few pom-poms in white that I could use.

I didn’t have quite enough, so I looked for more while I was already out shopping for groceries (Trying to leave the house as little as possible). Sadly, my Walmart didn’t have just white pom-poms and I wasn’t going to buy 10 packages of mixed colors just to get the whites that I needed. So I went to the beauty section and bought a pack of cotton balls for $1.

I chose a ribbon to place the bunnies on from the ribbon I had on hand and then knew I needed something like the poms the original poster used for the spaces in-between. I was worried about trying to get the ribbon through a pom-pom and I also didn’t have pastel-colored poms, only brights. And because I wanted this to be a ‘Springy’ themed project, bright colors were not going to cut it.

I realized I had plenty of paper flowers and went about arranging them in a way that I enjoyed. It took A LOT of measuring to get the bunnies spaced fairly evenly all on the ribbon and then to measure the middles and get the flowers there, but I’m glad I did. Things may have moved slightly from transfer from my floor to the wall, but not much. And because the flowers are in the middle, it should prevent the bunnies from moving too much out of alignment.

I am realizing I should’ve closed the blinds before I took pictures, but oh well. What’s done is done.

And a close-up, so you can see the splattering a little better.

It was such a fun project and it was something I could do with most everything I already owned. So the total cost it cost me at this moment in time was $1. I love it when I can do projects that simply and cheaply.

Let’s just hope these bunnies hold up throughout the month and then another year (and then some) when in storage. Fingers crossed!
