For a long while now I've known we needed new family pictures. The last ones were taken in October of 2021, so it had been a couple of years. Technically we had some from Shaylyn's wedding in the Spring of 2022, but those made her front and center and now that she is divorced, we needed something new.

However, the powers that be were set out to do everything in their power to not let these pictures happen. If I'm honest, had I been a little more patient, the issues we encountered may not have been issues at all, but patience is not a strong suit of mine.

For various reasons I wanted the pictures done before December. That was the first problem. Getting a photographer on short notice isn't an easy feat. I didn't figure it was too much of an issue if I went to the place I'd gone a few times previously, as they are a studio and have plentiful openings daily. Well, I went to schedule with them and discovered that because there are 9 people in this family we are considered an 'extended family group' and it costs much more than we had paid in previous years. I told the guy to keep our spot 'just in case', but meanwhile went to look at other possible routes.

I got in touch with the photographer (an old neighbor) who did our photos in 2021 and asked about her availability. We chatted about a few options, but one child's work schedule as well as the sun going down early kept getting in our way. The photographer and I were eventually able to find a date and time that worked for all, though she had to pretty much bend over backward for it to happen on her end. I will forever be grateful for her sacrifice (and her husband's). Huge shoutout to Simply Photography by Kammi.

We had our date and as luck would have it, it decided to rain that day. We weren't sure what we were going to do, but we got super lucky and caught a break in the storms. We got sprinkled on a bit here and there, but overall, the weather cooperated. However, it was still a super cold day. Somehow I'm great at choosing the coldest days for our family pics.

The turnaround time for these pictures was incredible. We had them taken on the 18th and we got them back on the 20th or 21st. It was seriously fast. As I like to do, I am sharing both the pics and a quick slideshow, so you can choose your favorite viewing method.

P.S. Jacen was super scared to be on the bridge And yes, we forgot to get pictures of Ailey & Shaylyn together. It happens.
